LATROBE, Pa. -- Point Park University women's cross country finished behind only the University of Pittsburgh in placing second of 17 teams Saturday at the St. Vincent Invitational.
NCAA Division I Pitt had seven runners in the top 10 to win the team title. Point Park was next in the team standings with four runners in the top 20. The second-place showing built on the Pioneers' third-place finish last week at Penn State-Behrend.
Freshman Katie Guarnaccia, from North Allegheny High School, was one of only three runners not from Pitt to place in the top 10. She took 10th overall at 20:44 for the 5K. Jenny Brewer of Alderson-Broaddus ran away with the individual title with a time of 19:27, which was 26 seconds better than the field.
Sophomore Kelsey Wilkins finished two spots back of Guarnaccia in 12th place at 20:57. Senior Hanka Jiraskova (21:05) and sophomore Ashley Czerniewski-Hagan (21:29) were 14th and 19th, respectively. Emily Maxwell (21:55) took 27th of 125 as the Pioneers' top five were within one minute, 10 seconds of each other.
Christina Wisniewski finished in 23:22 for 52nd place, and Lindsey Palmer was 72nd at 25:25.
