PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University women's cross country team battled a very strong field Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon University meet in Schenley Park and finished in 13th place.

Keri Rouse, a sophomore, and Katie Johnston, a freshman, were the top performers for the Pioneers. Rouse, from Greensburg, Pa., finished the 5K race in 23:04 while Johnston, a native of Newville, Pa., had a time of 23:08.

Christina Wisniewski was the next finisher at 23:44. Point Park had four runners finish in the 26-minute range including Lindsey Palmer (26:11), Leah Bubeck (26:11), Becky Lessner (26:18) and Martine Saul (26:37). Carleigh Dettorre came in at 28:35.

The Pioneers were once again running without two of their top performers. Front runner Ashley Goodsell, who placed in the top 10 in both meets she ran this year, continues to be out with illness while veteran Lindsay Dill has been sideline for year due to injury.

Point Park is off next week and will compete again Oct. 22 at the Walsh University meet in Canton, Ohio. That will be the last regular season race for the Pioneers, who will travel to St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 5 for the Unaffiliated Conference Meet (American Mideast Conf./American Midwest Conf.). The team champion and any qualifying individuals from that competition will advance to the NAIA national meet Nov. 19 in Vancouver, Wash.
