PITTSBURGH – Point Park University softball has signed Penn Cambria standout pitcher Kate Reese, announced Point Park head coach Michelle Coultas. Reese, a dominant pitcher who led her high school team to the District 6 Class-AA semifinals, will be a freshman in the fall of 2011
Reese, primarily a junk-ball pitcher, was 10-2 with 140 strikeouts in 81 innings pitched during her senior season. She racked up four shutouts, three no-hitters and one perfect game.
“Kate Reese is a very hard worker who is a great addition to the team,” said Coultas. “She throws a lot of junk, has great movement and is a real competitor on the mound.”
Reese, a right-hander, is small in stature as she stands about 5-3. But she came up big in the District 6 playoffs when she totaled 13 strikeouts, gave up only two hits and also collected an RBI in a 2-1, quarterfinal victory.
Point Park is an NAIA member located in downtown Pittsburgh. The Pioneers were 23-18 in 2011 when they shared the regular season title in the American Mideast Conference and played in the finals of the AMC Tournament.
Reese joins a program that has done well in producing top pitchers. The Pioneers have had the last two AMC Pitcher of the Year recipients in Kelsey Robertson (2010) and Kristen Zelenka (2011).
