PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University softball swept the four-game KIAC series against Midway College Saturday with an 11-1 win in game one and an 11-1 win in game two, both in five innings. Players, parents and fans recognized Point Park’s nine senior players before the start of game one at Fairhaven Park.

The Pioneers (28-14, 21-7 KIAC) scored 10 runs in the first inning of game two to enact the mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Leadoff batter Taylor Geary ripped a solo home run to start the game. Haley Wisniewski hit an RBI double at the bottom of the order, and freshman Shania James hit a two-run single as Point Park batted through the order. Becca Babincak hit a three-run home run her second at-bat of the inning, and Alyssa McMurtrie scored on an overthrow by the catcher to third before ending the inning 10-0.

Point Park’s final run came when Geary hit a double and advanced to third on Babincak’s ground out to the pitcher. Geary scored on an error by the catcher.

Midway’s (4-25, 3-23 KIAC) only run came in the top of the fourth when Kim Roberts singled and advanced on a fielder’s choice. Another single moved her to third, and a single by pitcher Jeri Bogard brought her home.

Senior Sarah Urchek (4-1) got the start and the win on the mound for the Pioneers, allowing one run on six hits and recording one strikeout in four innings.

Michaela Lewis-Lambert put in an inning of work, striking out two of the three batters she faced to end the game in the fifth.

Point Park won game one with the same score of 11-1.

Senior Gabi Vogt ripped a two-run home run in the first, and catcher Lauren Fevola hit an RBI double to put the Pioneers up 4-0 in the first.

Midway pitcher Gabby Bruner singled to drive in the Eagle’s long run in the top of the third.

The Pioneers scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to enact the mercy rule.

McMurtrie hit an RBI double, and senior Nikki Eagan hit a two-run single to make the score 7-1. Senior Audrey Eisentrout singled in a run, and pinch runner Carly Rosso scored on a passed ball. Babincak hit a two-run double to make the score 11-1.

Senior Kate Reese (12-8) got the win on the hill for the Pioneers, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Senior Megan Dyer pitched the final two innings, striking out five of the six batters she faced.

After a few game cancelations due to schedule conflicts, the Pioneers are attempting to find another match-up to prepare for KIAC playoffs April 24-25. Currently, the Pioneers are second in the standings and would face the number seven team in the first round of the conference, which is currently Midway.
