PITTSBURGH -- Kate Reese threw a no-hitter, and Ashley Morran had another monster week at the plate to give Point Park Univeristy a sweep of the KIAC softball weekly awards for April 22-28 announced on Monday (April 29).
Reese, a sophomore right-hander from Cresson, Pa., was the KIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for her no-hitter of Alice Lloyd (Ky.) on April 26. Morran, a junior second baseman from Washington, Pa., hit .636 with four homers and nine RBIs in four games on the week to be named the KIAC Softball Player of the Week.
Reese's no-hitter came over five innings as Point Park took care of Alice Lloyd, 12-0, on the mercy rule, Reese struck out four and walked none in the gem. Only two errors kept it from being a perfect game.
Morran was named the player of the week for the second week in a row after another impressive showing. Morran further stated her case as a KIAC Player of the Year candidate by going 7 of 11 in four weekend games, with six of the seven hits going for extra bases. She homered in three of the four games, hit safely in all four and also added a double.
The potential NAIA All-American is hitting .395 with career-highs of 14 doubles, 12 homers and 53 RBIs in 40 games. Morran is slugging .814, and her on-base percentage is .455.
Point Park is the No. 2 seed in the KIAC Tournament, which will be held May 3-4 in Danville, Ky and hosted by Asbury (Ky.) University.
