PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University volleyball program and head coach Mike Bruno have announced the addition of eight new players for the 2013 recruiting class. The Pioneers will welcome the new players to campus when the team begins preseason training Aug. 12.

The Pioneers were in need of a big recruiting year after graduating nine seniors -- seven of which were letter winners -- from last year's team that was 30-10 overall and was ranked as high as No. 24 in the NAIA.

Coach Bruno feels that the Pioneers did well on the recruiting trail, particularly from the standpoint of the team needing players who were ready to make an impact on the college level right away.

"I'm very excited with all the new talent that will be a part of our program," said Bruno, who is in his ninth year at the school. "With so many graduating seniors, we had a lot of voids to fill. Many of these new players will have the opportunity to compete for a chance to impact the program immediately.

"Many of our newcomers have college-volleyball experience, which will help our transition greatly. We have junior college players who were all-region in some cases, and among the freshmen, I feel we have one of the top all-around players from the WPIAL coming in."

The following is a summary of the 2013 Point Park University volleyball recruiting class. For more info on the Pioneers, follow them on Twitter @PointParkVB and @PointParkSports. Point Park begins the 2013 volleyball season Aug. 23-24 at the Early Bird Tournament hosted by the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
