PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University volleyball and head coach Mike Bruno have signed another WPIAL recruit with the addition of outside hitter Kristi Chenarides of Pine-Richland High School.
Chenarides, a 5-11 outside hitter, will be a freshman for the Pioneers in the fall of 2014. She was named All-WPIAL Class AAA Volleyball Second Team this past year as a senior at Pine-Richland.
She started her high school career at Our Lady of Sacred Heart, where she was a multi-year all-state player in Class A. She played middle hitter for OLSH but changed to outside hitter when she transferred to Pine-Richland. Point Park will use her on the outside.
Chenarides played club volleyball for Pittsburgh Elite and Pittsburgh 3 Rivers, the latter of which Point Park head coach Mike Bruno is the director.
"I am really looking forward to coaching Kristi again," said coach Bruno. "I had the pleasure of coaching her in club as a 14-year old. I couldn't be more excited about her progress and development as a player. She has a big upside to her, and she should develop into an impact player for us on the left pin."
Point Park is a member of the NAIA and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneers lost just one starter from last year's team, which went 21-19 overall and reached the semifinals of the KIAC Tournament in what was a rebuilding year. The Pioneers are 148-53 (.736) since 2009.
