PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University volleyball and head coach Mike Bruno have signed their first recruit for the 2014 class with Ashley Taylor committing to the Pioneers. Taylor is a 6-1 outside/right-side hitter from North Hills, Pa., and North Hills High School.
Taylor was a four-time WPIAL Class AAA all-section player during her time with the Indians. She will be a freshman for the Pioneers in the fall 2014. She plays club volleyball for Pittsburgh Elite.
"Ashley Taylor is a very physical kid, and she has proven to be an dynamic offensive threat at the net at both the and club and high school levels," said Point Park volleyball head coach Mike Bruno, who is entering his 10th year. "We are looking forward to her joining the team in August. She is a fine addition to the Point Park volleyball community.
"In my opinion, she is one of the top players in the area," added Bruno. "I am absolutely shocked that she wasn’t on the All-WPIAL Class AAA Team."
Point Park, a member of the NAIA and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, was 21-19 this past year for its fifth 20-win season in a row. The Pioneers are one of the winningest programs in the NAIA the last five years averaging 29 wins a year and a .736 winning percentage since 2009.
