Point Park inks Gendron, an all-state outside hitter

May 11, 2009

PITTSBURGH – Ali Gendron, one of the top outside hitters in Northeast Ohio, has committed to Point Park, where she will be a freshman on the Pioneers’ volleyball team in the fall.

Gendron was an Ohio Division II third-team all-state selection in 2008, and she is a graduate of Sheffield Brookside High School in Sheffield, Ohio.

Gendron finished up her standout high school career with several awards last year. The 5-9 outside hitter earned Player of the Year honors in the Patriot Athletic Conference and Lorain County in 2008. She was the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s leader in kills per game for Northeast Ohio with 5.42 per game.

She amassed 1,127 kills in her career, including 461 as a senior. Gendron posted 35 kills in a match on Sept. 9, which ranks 20th all time in the Ohio high school volleyball records. She was a two-time, first-team selection on the district, county and conference levels.

Gendron is a member of the Maverick Ace National club team, which qualified this spring for the USA Volleyball 18-and-under National Tournament in Miami.
