Point Park earns No. 4 seed for AMC Volleyball Tournament Nov. 12-13
Nov. 12-13 at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, Mt. Vernon, Ohio
CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The 2010 American Mideast Conference Volleyball Tournament bracket was announced by the league office Sunday, and Point Park University has drawn the No. 4 seed in the five-team field.
Point Park, 29-9 overall and 7-3 in the AMC, will play the first match of the tournament when it meets No. 5 seed Cedarville (16-17, 6-4 AMC) this Friday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
All tournament matches will be played at regular season champion Mt. Vernon Nazarene University (10-0 AMC) in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. After Friday's opening-round game between Point Park and Cedarville, the tournament will continue with the semifinals and finals on Saturday, Nov. 13.
Should Point Park beat Cedarville, it would move on to play host Mt. Vernon Nazarene (40-3) Saturday at 12 p.m. in the first of two semifinal matches. The second semifinal match will pit No. 2 Walsh (22-8, 9-1 AMC) versus No. 3 Malone (30-7, 8-2 AMC) at 2 p.m. The AMC Championship Match is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m.
Point Park, winners of six in a row and eight of its last nine matches, is in the AMC playoffs for the fourth time in the last five years. The Pioneers made it to the championship match of last year's AMC tournament before losing to Walsh, 3-2. Point Park was 32-8 in 2009.
The winner of the AMC tournament will get the league's lone bid to the NAIA national tournament, which gets underway with opening round games Nov. 21.
Point Park's AMC tournament appearances have come in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010. Last year's trip to the finals represented the Pioneers' best showing in the conference playoffs.
