Point Park extends win streak to four with sweep at Shepherd Tri-Match

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Point Park University volleyball team picked up a pair of victories at the Shepherd University Tri-Match Saturday to run its winning streak to four matches.
Point Park improved to 17-5 overall by beating host Shepherd and also West Liberty by identical scores of 3-1. In each match, the Pioneers staked a lead of two sets to none.
The Pioneers beat Shepherd (6-10, 4-1 WVIAC) by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21. Point Park topped West Liberty (8-10, 2-4 WVIAC), 25-19, 25-12, 22-25, 25-15.
Lindsey Oberacker (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Rachel Roddy (Greensburg/Greensburg Salem) each turned in 17 kills in the win over Shepherd. Roddy added six assists and five digs in the match.
Roddy sat out the second match of the day, and it was Oberacker who picked up her game with a season-high 20 kills to go along with six aces and eight digs.
Junior setter Katie Geary, a native of Pittsburgh, had 47 assists and 18 digs in match No. 1, and she posted 44 assists in the nightcap.
Three more front-row players had consistency across the two matches Saturday -- senior middle hitter Ashley Zietak (Pittsburgh/Brashear) had 10 kills in each match, freshman middle hitter Nicole Wurstle (Valley City, OH/Buckeye) had four kills and four blocks followed by five kills and six blocks and freshman outside hitter Chelsea Katkich (Imperial/West Allegheny) had performances of seven kills and seven digs followed by six kills and seven digs.
Amanda Ardinger (Moon Twp./Moon Area) led the Pioneers with 25 digs versus Shepherd, and Margaret Gillooly (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) had a team-high 10 digs versus West Liberty.
The Pioneers will try to set a season high by extending their winning streak to five matches in their AMC showdown with Walsh on Tuesday. Point Park lost to Walsh in the finals of last year's AMC postseason tournament, and Walsh will visit Point Park at 7 p.m. at Greentree SportsPlex.
As a promotion for that match, it is USG T-Shirt Night. Point Park's United Student Government will give away free T-Shirts to all students in attendance, while supplies last.
