Pioneers win two of three on Day 1 of Clearwater (FL) Christian Invitational

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Point Park University volleyball team won two of three matches on Friday at the first day of the Clearwater (Fla.) Christian Invitational.

The Pioneers (18-7) started the day with a 3-1 win over Trinity (Fla.) College by scores of 25-9, 25-16, 15-25, 25-16. Point Park's Rachel Roddy, Ashley Zietak and Lindsey Oberacker combined for 27 kills and just three errors as the Pioneers cruised to victory.
Then Point Park absorbed a five-set loss to St. Thomas (Fla.) University. The NAIA school from Miami and the Sun Conference topped the Pioneers by scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-7. St. Thomas is 12-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play.
Roddy turned in her biggest match of the year vs. St. Thomas with a season-high 22 kills to go along with 11 digs. Oberacker added 16 kills, and Katie Geary had 47 assists. Amanda Ardinger led the back row with 25 digs.
The Pioneers ended the first day of the event with a 3-1 win over local rival Carlow, Point Park earned a 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17 victory to top the Celtics for the second time this year.
Like Roddy did earlier in the day, Zietak put up a season-high 22 kills and also four blocks versus Carlow. Oberacker chipped in 12 kills, and Ardinger had 34 digs to registered a high for the year.
