Walsh edges Point Park in three closely contested sets, 3-0

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Walsh University managed a 3-0 sweep of visiting Point Park University in American Mideast Conference volleyball action Thursday night, and each set was closely contested.
Walsh (9-0, 3-0 AMC) remained unbeaten by edging Point Park (15-4, 1-1 AMC) by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-21.
Walsh, which is in year two of NCAA Division II provisional status, cannot compete for the AMC or NAIA postseason but can compete for a regular-season conference title. Results versus Walsh will not be counted for playoff qualification or seeding.
The Cavaliers visit Point Park Oct. 4 (7 p.m.) at Greentree SportsPlex.
Much of Point Park's offense came from junior outside hitter Lindsey Oberacker, who pounded down 16 kills. She also added nine digs and two blocks.
Chelsea Katkich was next on the team with seven kills while Brittany Lhota and Nicole Wurstle had four each.
Defensively, Alyssa Hall had 13 digs, and Margaret Gillooly had 10. Setter Tayler Pugliese handed out 27 assists.
Neither team could get much room for its attack in the first and third sets. Walsh and Point Park combined for an attacking percentage of .120 in those sets as the defenses battled it out.
Things opened up in the second set as Walsh had 18 kills in 33 attempts (42.4 Pct.) and Point Park had 15 kills in 27 attempts (37.0 Pct.).
The Point Park defense held Walsh to a hitting percentage of .190 for the match and led in digs, 44-38.
