Point Park sweeps WV Wesleyan Tri-Match, improves to 17-4 overall

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The Point Park University volleyball team had a strong day at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tri-Match on Saturday and came away with a pair of non-conference wins to improve to 17-4 on the year.
Point Park (17-4, 1-1 AMC) defeated Fairmont State and host West Virginia Wesleyan each by a score of 3-1. The Pioneers beat Fairmont State, 19-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23. Point Park topped West Virginia Wesleyan, 25-20, 22-25, 26-24, 25-16.
Fairmont State (10-5) and W.V. Wesleyan (9-7) are both of the NCAA Division II WVIAC.
Point Park's Rachel Stedina put up a career-high 13 blocks to go along with six kills and zero errors in 12 attempts versus Fairmont State. Point Park had 16 total blocks as a team.
Lindsey Oberacker tallied 21 kills, seven digs and five blocks. Chelsea Katkich added 12 kills and three blocks. Setter Tayler Pugliese notched 48 assists, nine digs and two blocks.
Nicole Wurstle and Brittany Lhota combined for 13 kills and seven blocks. Alyssa Hall totaled 18 digs, and Margaret Gillooly had 11.
Versus West Virginia Wesleyan, Pugliese had a season-high 52 assists and spread the ball around with three players getting double-digit kills. Lhota record 14 kills and six blocks. Oberacker (12) and Wurstle (10) also had double-digit kills. Katkich added nine kills, and Stedina had eight.
Point Park once again put up a big block with 14 total blocks as a team. Stedina had seven blocks, Wurstle had five and Oberacker four.
Oberacker tied Hall for the team lead with 16 digs. In what was a great all-around floor game, Oberacker had 12 kills, 16 digs, six aces, four blocks and 39 passes without an error.
Point Park is now off until Thursday when it visits the Western New York area for three conference matches. Point Park visits Houghton Thursday, Daemen Friday and Roberts Wesleyan Saturday.
