MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Point Park University volleyball team concluded its productive weekend in Kentucky by picking up a KIAC win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy (Mo.), 3-0, at neutral site Midway (Ky.) College on Sunday.
Point Park (26-8) ran its KIAC record to 7-1 by dispatching St. Louis COP, 25-17, 25-10, 25-17. St. Louis COP dropped to 11-13 overall and 3-7 KIAC.
The Pioneers were in Kentucky since Thursday night, and they played five matches on the weekend in all. Point Park had a respectable showing at the Boneyard Brawl hosted by Georgetown (Ky.) College on Friday-Saturday by going 2-2 at the event that was littered with NAIA Top 25 teams. Point Park went 2-2 there with an upset of No. 5 Lee (Tenn.) and a win over a Taylor (Ind.) team that was receiving votes nationally just like the Pioneers themselves.
Point Park had 16 players see action in Sunday's win over St. Louis COP. Ten different players had a kill led by Kirsten Burkes with 10. Freshman setter Cara Bradley had 19 assists, four kills and two blocks, and she shared the setting duties with starter Tayler Pugliese, a senior who had 13 assists.
Front row players Ashley Campbell, Keaton Sausman and Nicole Wurstle combined for 15 kills and 17 blocks. Campbell put up six kills and five blocks, Sausman had five kills and six blocks, and Wurstle added four kills and six blocks. Margaret Gillooly had 11 digs to lead the back row.
Point Park is currently in second place in the KIAC with two matches remaining. NAIA No. 15 IU East (37-3, 8-0 KIAC) is in first place by a game and has a win in hand over the Pioneers. Point Park concludes its KIAC schedule at home this Saturday, Nov. 3 vs. Cincinnati Christian at Alice Lloyd. Before that, the Pioneers visit NCAA DII Shippensburg Tuesday at 7 p.m.
