PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University volleyball had two players recognized with the announcement of the American Volleyball Coaches Associations' NAIA All-Northeast Region teams this week.

Sophomore outside hitter Shiloh Simonson, from Peters Township High School, was named to the AVCA NAIA All-Northeast Reigon First Team, and freshman right-side hitter Ashley Taylor, from North Hills High School, was named honorable mention all-region.

Simonson earned a spot on the all-region first team as one of the top all-around players in the region. The All-KIAC First Team selection had 399 kills to rank second in the KIAC and 424 digs to rank sixth in the KIAC. Simonson, a 5-9 sophomore, was the only KIAC player to rank in the top 10 of the conference in both kills and digs.

Simonson led the KIAC in total service aces with 68, a figure that ranked fourth in the NAIA. She ranked 31st in the nation with 0.46 service aces per set.

Taylor capped off her strong freshman season with the honorable mention all-region selection to go along with All-KIAC First Team honors.

A 6-0 right-side hitter, Taylor was second on the Point Park team with 313 kills, which ranked eighth in the KIAC. She registered a top-10 ranking in the conference with a hititng percentage of .233, which ranked ninth. Taylor put up 71.0 total blocks, which was third on the team and 17th in the KIAC.

Simonson is one of 14 players to be named to the All-Northeast Region first team. Taylor is one of eight players named honorable mention.

Simonson and Taylor each earned AVCA all-region honors for the first time in their careers. With two all-region players this year, Point Park volleyball now has 10 all-region players in its history, which began in 1991. The Pioneers' all-time list of all-region players is below. Point Park has had at least one all-region selection each of the last six seasons.

Taylor is Point Park's first freshman to ever earn all-region honors and the youngest in program history. Simonson is just the third sophomore to be all-region joining Lindsey Oberacker in 2010 and Brittany Lhota in 2011.
