Kristen Veseleny Women's Basketball Player Blog -- Entry #2Posted on Jan. 24, 2012 (3:45 p.m.)
Hello Pioneer fans!
This week started our spring semester. It was nice to see all of our friends and other students back at school and have the campus come to life again.
All week we have been practicing extra hard knowing that our final stretch of the season is approaching -- all conference games.
On Tuesday, January 17, we faced Houghton College at home. This was our first game with a Fan Van available for students to come see us play. The turn out was great, and it was nice to see the support from everyone. Thank you to all who came. It meant a lot to all of us!
The first half of the game was close. We were a little sloppy coming out. This was our first game in a week since our win over Penn State Fayette. The score was close at the half. Coming out in the second half, everyone stepped up their defense. Kristen Beatty had a career high this game and really came to play.
Also, April made that one three pointer that she has been waiting to make. With that three, April became the leading three-point scorer for Point Park women’s basketball. Couldn’t be happier for you Ape!
With the win over Houghton, we continued our win streak with 8 straight wins.
Our next game was on Saturday, January 21 at Roberts Wesleyan. This game was a good test for us. The bus ride was the worst part of the trip. It was a long one…5 hours. Thankfully, we had movies to watch.
When we got to the hotel on Friday night, we had a team dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. It was another chance for team bonding. There is never a dull moment with us.
Our game was at 2 p.m. The game was close in the first half. We were only up by one (20-19). Our shots weren’t falling, but in the second half we picked up our defense, and our offense slowly followed. Emily Schartner came up big with a season high 19 points. With this win, we set the school record for consecutive wins.
Come support your Pioneers at home against Carlow University on Tuesday, January 24 at 7 pm.
