Profile: Austin is the Pioneers’ point guard and an All-AMC Second Team selection the last two years. She is a former NCAA Division I recruit at Dayton who transferred to Point Park in 2009-10 and is in her third year in the program. She will be relied on to play a lot of minutes and lead the Point Park offense once again. She has the ability to shoot from the outside, drive to the basket, see the floor and set up her teammates. Austin holds the school single-season record for 3-pointers made with the 65 she made as a freshman. She has a chance to break the school career record for 3-pointers made this year.
2010-11: Austin was named All-AMC Second Team with 10.9 ppg and a team-high 89 assists. She started all 27 games and averaged 35.9 minutes per game. A preseason foot injury dropped her production from her freshman year, but she was still among the top guards in the AMC. She had a season-high 25 points at Rio Grande and reached double figures in 14 of 27 games. She registered five or more assists eight times with a high of eight on two occasions.
2009-10: Austin was All-AMC Second Team with 14.7 ppg and team-best 98 assists. Her 65 3-poitners made set a Point Park single-season record. She finished second in the AMC Newcomer of the Year award race. Austin started all 27 games and led the Pioneers in scoring 11 times in her first season at Point Park. She scored in double figures 21 times, which included four 20-point games and one 30-point game. Her career high of 31 points, eight steals and six 3-pointers came at Geneva. The six treys at Geneva tied a school record, and her 65 3-pointers on the year broke the previous school record by seven.
Prior to Point Park: After an all-state career at North Catholic High School, she started her collegiate basketball career at NCAA Division I Dayton. She left the Flyers’ program early in her freshman season, and she enrolled in the Univ. of Pittsburgh. Austin did not play basketball at Pitt, where she studied engineering for two years.
High school: Austin was the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Class A Player of the Year as a senior in 2006-07. That year she was named to the PG’s Class A Fab 5 team and the Tribune-Review Terrific 10. As a four-year starter, she scored 1,528 career points and was a first-team all-state selection as a senior. Austin led North Catholic to two WPIAL titles. In her senior year, she averaged 14.8 points, 5.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game in leading her team to the PIAA title game.
