PITTSBURGH – Point Park University senior guard Ashley Henderson was named Capital One Academic All-District Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. The awards program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the court and in the classroom.

Henderson, a 5-10, senior from Greensburg, Pa., carries an impressive 3.94 GPA as an advertising and public relations major to go along with a team-best scoring average of 17.5 points per game. Henderson was named to the District 2 Second Team in the College Division, which means she fell just short of advancing for Academic All-American consideration.

Honorees who are selected to the All-District First Team advance for a possible selection to the Capital One Academic All-American College Division team. All awardees are chosen by CoSIDA members. Nominees must have a 3.30 GPA at minimum and be a starter or important reserve. Most selections are outstanding on the court and in the classroom.

This is the second year in a row that Henderson received an award for academic excellence. Last year, she was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in the first year in which she was eligible for that honor. She will receive that award again this year, which is for juniors and seniors who have at least a 3.5 GPA.

Henderson is in her third year with the Pioneers (11-11 overall) after spending her freshman season at NCAA Division I schools Pittsburgh and Canisius. She ranks 10th in school history with 1,127 career points for a career scoring average of 15.2 points per game.

In addition to her career-high scoring average this year, the two-time All-AMC selection is averaging a career-high 6.5 rebounds per game. Henderson shoots 40 percent from the field and 76 percent from the foul line. Henderson ranks second in the AMC at 17.5 ppg, and she has eight 20-point games on the year.
