WBCA Academic Top 25

PITTSBURGH -- For the second year in a row, the Point Park University women's basketball team is ranked in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association's Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Pioneers had a team GPA of 3.31 for 2012-13 to rank No. 21 in the NAIA, as released by the WBCA on Thursday (July 18).

The WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls annually rank women's basketball teams in all divisions by team GPA. Point Park was ranked No. 20 last year. The NAIA rankings are a combined poll with NAIA Division I and Division II schools. Point Park ranks 11th among NAIA Division II schools in this year's poll.

"It's always an honor and a privilege when your team gets recognized nationally for something," said Point Park head coach Tony Grenek, who has coached the Pioneers the last two years. "To be ranked in the WBCA Academic Top 25 again demonstrates our team's consistency in the classroom and proves that last year's academic accolades weren't a fluke. Our goal is to continually be ranked nationally academically every single year."

Not only has Point Park women's basketball been nationally ranked academically the last two season, it has also enjoyed its best success ever on the basketball court. The Pioneers have won back-to-back conference tournament championships to qualifiy for the NAIA Division II national tournament both years.

Along with its 3.31 team GPA, Point Park set a school record for victories with a 25-7 overall record in 2012-13. The Pioneers ended the season ranked in the 'others receiving votes' section of the NAIA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll at No. 29 overall. Of the 32 teams that made the national tournament, Point Park's team GPA ranked sixth in the field.

The Pioneers are a combined 48-14 (.774) the last two years and have 3 of 5 starters returning for the 2013-14 season.

Vanguard University topped the NAIA schools in the WBCA's Academic Top 25 with a team GPA of 3.61. For a complete listing of rankings, see the WBCA release below
