Austin is in her second season at Point Park, and she led the Pioneers in scoring, assists and 3-pointers last year. An All-AMC second-team selection, Austin asserted herself as one of the top point guards in the conference last year. She set a school record in 2009-10 with 65 3-pointers, and she shot 37-percent from beyond the arc. Austin led the Pioneers with 14.7 points and 3.7 assists per game. This offseason, she had foot surgery, but she is expected to be healthy by the season opener. After an all-state career at North Catholic High School, she started her collegiate basketball career at NCAA Division I Dayton. She left the Flyers’ program early in her freshman season, and she enrolled in the Univ. of Pittsburgh. Austin did not play basketball at Pitt, where she studied engineering for two years. In this her second season back in college basketball, she has the ability to further establish herself as one of the top players in the AMC.

2009-10: Austin started all 27 games and led the Pioneers in scoring 11 times in her first season at Point Park. She scored in double figures 21 times, which included four 20-point games and one 30-point game. Her career high of 31 points, eight steals and six 3-pointers came at Geneva. The six treys at Geneva tied a school record, and her 65 3-pointers on the year broke the previous school record by seven. Other big games included 28 points on 11 of 20 shooting at Notre Dame (OH), 27 points on 9 of 14 shooting vs. Roberts Wesleyan and 26 points vs. Midway. Austin ranked 14th in the AMC in scoring, fourth in 3-pointers made and fourth in steals with 75. Her 3.7 assists per game ranked eighth. Austin averaged 35 minutes per game. She played all 40 minutes in seven games, and she played 39 minutes in eight other games. Her career highs of nine assists and eight rebounds came in a 10-point effort at Northwestern Ohio.

High school: Austin was the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Class A Player of the Year as a senior in 2006-07. That year she was named to the PG’s Class A Fab 5 team and the Tribune-Review Terrific 10. As a four-year starter, she scored 1,528 career points and was a first-team all-state selection as a senior. Austin led North Catholic to two WPIAL titles. In her senior year, she averaged 14.8 points, 5.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game in leading her team to the PIAA title game.
