RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The Point Park University women's basketball team lost its season opener to Bluefield (Va.), 76-63, Friday in the first round of the Bevo Francis Tournament hosted by Rio Grande.

Point Park (0-1) trailed 37-26 at halftime and cut the deficit to one point with less than eight minutes to play.  But the Pioneers could not overcome 29 turnovers as Bluefield improved to 4-0 on the season.

The Pioneers will play the consolation game Saturday at 11 a.m. Point Park will face the loser of the other first-round game between Midway (Ky.) and the host team, Rio Grande.

The Pioneers shot 41 percent (24-for-58) from the field and were outrebounded, 39-35. Point Park was led in rebounding by Marissa Reinhard (Plum/Plum), who grabbed nine boards.

Joncelyn Peterkin (West Mifflin/West Mifflin), a 6-2 sophomore center who transferred from Carlow, totaled five blocks in her first game at Point Park.

Bluefield, which like Point Park is a member of NAIA Division II, shot 47 percent (28-for-60) from the field. The Rams are in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
