Point Park University women's basketball schedule includes 27 games

Sept. 18, 2010

PITTSBURGH -- The 2010-11 Point Park University women's basketball schedule includes 27 games, 16 of which are a part of a challenging American Mideast Conference slate.

The Pioneers will open the 2010-11 season under fifth-year coach Sam Kosanovich on Nov. 12-13 at the Bevo Francis Tournament hosted by Rio Grande (OH) University. Point Park returns four starters from last year's team, which went 14-13 overall and 10-9 in the AMC.

Point Park has 13 home games on its schedule beginning with a Nov. 23 non-conference game vs. Geneva. All of Point Park's home games are played at CCAC-South Gymnasium in West Mifflin, Pa.

Point Park's 16 AMC games include eight home and eight away. The Pioneers play a home-and-home series with five AMC teams -- Walsh, Houghton, Carlow, Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan. The six remaining conference games come from single dates with Wilberforce, Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Ursuline, Cedarville, Malone and Notre Dame (OH).

Of the AMC teams that Point Park plays once each, Cedarville, Malone and Notre Dame (OH) are at home.

Perennial national power Shawnee State as well as Northwestern Ohio are no longer members of the AMC. Shawnee State played in the NAIA Division II national title game last year. Point Park's 2010-11 opponents who made the NAIA tournament last year include Cedarville and Walsh.

Point Park's non-conference games include a home-and-home with Penn State-Fayette, and single games versus Pitt-Greensburg, Salem International and at Fairmont State.

In addition to the season-opening tournament at Rio Grande, the Pioneers will also visit the Notre Dame (OH) Holiday Tournament Dec. 30-31.

AMC opponent Daemen is entered in the Bevo Francis Tournament, so the Pioneers have a chance to play their rivals from Amherst, N.Y., three times in the regular season. Although Point Park meets Notre Dame (OH) at its Holiday Tournament, the Pioneers will face the Falcons only once in AMC play.

Point Park is opening its season at the Bevo Francis Tournament for the second year in a row. Last year, the Pioneers split two games at the event named for the former college basketball scoring legend.
