PITTSBURGH – Point Park University women’s basketball head coach Tony Grenek has announced that transfer Katresa Savisky has joined the Pioneers. The native of Butler, Pa., will be a sophomore for the upcoming 2011-12 season.

Savisky, a 5-9 forward from Butler, Pa., spent her freshman season last year as the top player and leading scorer at Butler County Community College. She averaged 17.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game to lead the Pioneers to the NJCAA Region 20 championship.

It was the first-ever regional championship for Butler County CC, which ended up ranked No.6 in the nation for NJCAA Division III schools. Savisky was named the MVP of the Region 20 tournament and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

“Once again we are acquiring a tremendous student-athlete for our women’s basketball program,” said Grenek, who was hired as head coach May 5. “She’s had success in high school and at the junior college level both in the class room and on the basketball court. This kid is hardcore and fearless.”

Savisky carried a GPA of 3.75 during her freshman year at BC3. She is a 2010 graduate of Butler High School where she led the Tornadoes to a WPIAL section championship three years in a row.

Like Savisky, Grenek is also a graduate of Butler High School. Grenek is a native of Butler and graduated high school there in 1990. Grenek also has ties to Butler County CC as he was the head men’s basketball coach from 2001-06. The Pioneers went to the Region 20 playoffs in each of Grenek’s five years there and won the regional title in 2001-02.

Grenek had been the top assistant coach at NCAA Division II Seton Hill the past five years before being hired at Point Park. He helped the Griffins reach the NCAA DII national tournament.
