Savisky nets Capital One Academic All-America 2nd Team honors from CoSIDA

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University senior guard/forward Katresa Savisky has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America (R) College Division Women's Basketball Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Monday (Feb. 17).

Savisky, a native of Butler, Pa., and a Butler High School graduate, has a 3.97 grade-point average in Psychology. The 5-9 guard forward averages 9.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from the floor for the Pioneers (23-4, 10-4 KIAC).

The College Division of the Capital One Academic All-America (R) program is for NAIA and junior college student-athletes. By making the College Division Second Team, Savisky is among the top 10 players in NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II and junior college women's basketball in terms of combined performance in academics and on the basketball court.

Savisky is one of five players on the second team. The complete list of honorees can be found on the CoSIDA release at the link above. NAIA Division II All-American forward Samantha Kleinsasser of No. 2 Northwestern (Iowa) was named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year (R) with a 4.00 GPA, 16.2 ppg and 7.4 rpg.

This is the first time in her career that Savisky has been named Capital One Academic All-America (R). She was a Capital One Academic All-District First Team selection each of the last two years. All-district selections are forwarded on to the national ballot for consideration.

The Capital One Academic All-America (R) recipients are voted upon by members of CoSIDA. Candidates must be nominated by the CoSIDA member on their campus.

Savisky is a two-time Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete. She is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society Point Park Rho Chapter.

Savisky has been a key player for Point Park the last three years since transferring from Butler County CC. She has started the last two seasons and was the sixth man her first year on campus. Savisky has amassed 710 points and 418 rebounds in her three years at Point Park. When counting her points at Butler County CC, she has 1,156 career points in her four years of college basketball.
