Point Park's Savisky named Capital One (R) Academic All-District for second time

PITTSBURGH -- Katresa Savisky, a senior guard/forward on the Point Park University women's basketball team, has been named Capital One (R) Academic All-District First Team for the second year in a row, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday (Jan. 30).

Savisky, from Butler, Pa., earned a spot on the five-member first team in District 1 of the College Division with a 3.97 grade-point average in psychology. On the court, she is averaging 9.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 49 percent from the field.

The College Division of the awards program is for NAIA and junior colleges, and District 1 covers 23 states in the eastern half of the country. Other members of the District 1 First Team from the College Division hail from NAIA schools Rio Grande (Ohio), Madonna (Mich.), Lourdes (Ohio) and Southeastern (Fla.).

As a member of the academic all-district first team, Savisky's name will be forwarded to the ballot for consideration for Capital One (R) Academic All-America in the College Division. Savisky was academic all-district last year along with teammate Emily Schartner, who was also Capital One (R) Academic All-America Third Team.

Savisky is in her third year with the Pioneers and her second year as a starter. The Butler High School graduate spent her freshman year at Butler County CC, where she was an all-region player.

In less than three years at Point Park, Savisky has amassed 672 points and 400 rebounds for the Pioneers.She scored 446 points in her one year at Butler County CC, which gives her 1,118 points in her four-year college basketball career.

Savisky and the Pioneers, who are 20-2 overall, 7-2 KIAC, go on the road for three conference games Jan. 31-Feb. 2. Point Park visits Cincinnati Christian Jan. 31 (5 p.m.), Midway (Ky.) Feb. 1 (2 p.m.) and plays St. Louis College of Pharmacy at neutral site Midway (Ky.) Feb. 2 (11 a.m.).
