PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University sophomore center Sam Weir has been chosen as the first KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2014-15 season, the conference office announced on Monday (Nov. 3).

Weir is a 6-0 center from Ellwood City, Pa., and Riverside High School. She had a team-high 26 points and eight rebounds on 10 of 18 field goals in the Pioneers' season-opening, 87-82 win over West Virginia Tech on Nov. 1.

Weir, who is the top returning scorer and rebounder for two-time defending KIAC regular season and tournament champion Point Park, also had two blocks in the victory over the Golden Bears.

Point Park, which is in the 'others receiving votes' section of the NAIA Division II Preseason Top 25 Poll and is picked as the favorite in the KIAC North Division, returns to action Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8 to play at Madonna (Mich.) and at Concorda (Mich.).
