PITTSBURGH -- Point Park sophomore guard Kelly Johnson has already made an impact at her new school. The 5-8 point guard who transferred from Clarion University was named the KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Nov. 3-9 for her strong play in two games.
Johnson, an all-state player at Mt. Lebanon High School, averaged 20.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0 steals to lead the Pioneers to a 2-0 showing last week. She is in her first year with the Pioneers, and she has started all three games for 3-0 Point Park.
Johnson totaled 27 points and five steals in Point Park's 74-55 win at Madonna (Mich.) on Nov. 7. She followed that up the next day with 13 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals in a 122-93 win at Concordia (Mich.).
Point Park has claimed the KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor the first two weeks of the season. Sophomore center Sam Weir won the award the first time it was given out this year.
Point Park's next games are Friday-Saturday at the Davis & Elkins Classic, where it will meet Pitt-Johnstown on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and host D&E on Saturday at 4 p.m.
