Point Park makes its 3-0 on the season, 2-0 on the weekend with win at CU

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Point Park University women’s basketball team defeated Concordia (Mich.), 122-93, Saturday to open the season 3-0 and complete its weekend road trip to Michigan with a 2-0 showing.
Point Park (3-0), which has won 16 consecutive non-conference, regular season games and is receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Top 25 Poll, opened the weekend with a 74-55 victory at Madonna (Mich.) on Friday night.
Point Park sophomore center Sam Weir led all scorers with 22 points at Concordia (0-2), and all five Pioneers starters scored in double figures.
Senior guard Kayla Kiriau (19 points), junior guard/forward Ja’Nia McPhatter (17), sophomore forward Carly Forse (15) and sophomore guard Kelly Johnson (13) rounded out the Point Park starting five.
Additionally, Alexis Lyers provided a spark in tying a career high with nine points. Alexa Xenakis also had nine points. In all, 11 players scored for Point Park, a feat that happened for the second game in a row.
The Pioneers held a 61-54, halftime lead. However, Point Park outscored the Concordia, 61-39, in the final 20 minutes of the game to stretch out the final margin to 29 points.
Fouls were prevalent in both halves with each team being in the double bonus. But it was Point Park that made better use of the free-throw line outscoring Concordia, 26-12, at the charity stripe.
Point Park had more made free throws (26) than Concordia had attempts (23), and Cardinals shot just 52 percent from the line.
Point Park will next host Penn State-Fayette Wednesday with the opening tip scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at CCAC-South Gym.
