ELKINS W.Va., -- The Point Park University women’s basketball team lost, 81-69, to NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins at the Davis & Elkins Classic Saturday. The loss ends a 17-game non-conference winning streak for the Pioneers.

Point Park (4-1) fell behind early versus the Senators (1-1) and had their season-opening, four-game win streak stopped despite out-scoring Davis & Elkins the second half, 41-35. The Pioneers trailed at the half, 46-28.

The Pioneers' slow start came after they won in double overtime, 110-107, over Pitt-Johnstown in their first game of the tournament on Friday night. Point Park made only 10 of 28 field goals (35 percent) the first half to fall behind.

The Pioneers recovered to shoot 48 percent the second half -- incuding 7 of 15 from 3-point range after halftime -- but the 18-point halftime deficit was too large.

Sophomore center Sam Weir led Point Park with 21 points and 10 rebounds, her second double-double of the season.

Weir was the only Point Park player in double figures but a total of 11 players scored for the Pioneers. Kelly Johnson chipped in eight points while reserves Leah Hurst and Alexa Xenakis chipped in eight and seven points, respectively, off the bench.

The Pioneers had 13 assists versus 18 turnovers as a team and shot 52 percent from the free throw line making 13 of 25 total free throws. Point Park was out-rebounded 45-32.

After trailing at the half, 46-28, the Pioneers were unable to bring the lead down to single digits after halftime.

Point Park next will play at Washington Adventist Nov. 24.
