WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- Playing for the first time ever with a national ranking, No. 25 Point Park University took care of business at Wilberforce University for an 83-58, American Mideast Conference women's basketball victory on Tuesday night.
Point Park (17-4, 8-0 AMC), which broke into the NAIA Division II national rankings for the first time in school history on Monday, stayed unbeaten in conference play and won for the 12th straight game.
The Pioneers have not since Dec. 3, and they have a two-game lead for first place in the AMC standings after Daemen (18-6, 8-2 AMC) lost at Roberts Wesleyan, 53-41, on Tuesday night. Point Park had beaten then-No. 19 Daemen this past Saturday in a conference showdown.
Wilberforce dropped to 3-17 overall and 2-7 AMC with the loss. Point Park swept the season series over the Bulldogs, which included a 60-34, home win on Jan. 7.
Kristen Beatty, a senior guard/forward from Pittsburgh, Pa., and North Allegheny High School, led three Point Park players in double figures with 14. Joncelyn Peterkin, a senior center from West Mifflin, Pa., added 13, and junior guard Emily Schartner, from Finleyville, Pa., added 11 points.
The game was tied at 14-14 midway through the first half before Point Park began to make it a rout. The Pioneers were ahead, 25-15, by the 5:43 mark of the first half, and they took a 39-25 lead at halftime.
Point Park used all of its bench as all five 15 players in uniform got into the game. The Pioneers maintained the double-digit lead in the second half before eventually winning by 25.
Joining the many players who scored for Point Park were Teresa Davis and Maeve Gallegher with seven each.
The Pioneers play at Houghton on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Point Park women play the second half of the AMC doubleheader. Point Park has six games remaining, all of which are in conference play.
