Daemen stifles Point Park in rematch of AMC Tournament Finals, 74-60

AMHERST, N.Y. -- In a rematch of the American Mideast Conference Tournament Finals from last year, Daemen College stifled Point Park University on Saturday, 74-60, in a non-conference women's basketball game.

Point Park (2-1) shot just 30 percent from the field and 20 percent (7 of 34) from 3-point range in the loss to Daemen (7-1), which shot 51 percent overall and 55 percent (18 of 33) the second half.

Ja'Nia McPhatter, a sophomore forward from New Castle, Pa., had 17 points and eigtht rebounds to lead Point Park. Katresa Savisky, a junior forward from Butler, Pa., added 15 points and like McPhatter was 6 of 13 from the field.

Besides McPhatter and Savisky, the rest of the Point Park team made only 10 of 46 field goals for 21-percent shooting.

Daemen had four players in double figures led by 6-5 center Monica Kosior with 16 points. Ellie Allen added 14 points, and Raenn Stilwell contributed 13 points off the bench. Daemen was 6 of 16 (40 percent) from long range, and Lia Zahn came off the bench to go 3 for 3 from deep.

Daemen, which lost at Point Park in the AMC Finals last year, 60-48, took a 33-25 lead at hafltime. The Wildcats started the second half on a 13-3 run and later led by as many as 19, 50-31, with 10:39 to play. Point Park got as close as 12 points, 63-51, with 4:27 left as Savisky knocked down a couple of 3-pointers in a row.

But Point Park had only two field goals after that, both of which came in the final minute after Daemen re-built the 19-point lead, 74-55.

Point Park had just 11 turnovers compared to 18 for Daemen. Daemen held a 41-39 edge in rebounds and led in fast-break points, 14-2.

Point Park's next game is Nov. 16 at Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
