PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's basketball has signed forward Carly Forse and guard Celina DiPietro from Bishop Canevin High School's 2012-13 state championship team. Forse and DiPietro will be freshmen at Point Park in the fall 2013, and they signed with the Pioneers and head coach Tony Grenek earlier this month.

Forse is a 5-10 forward who averaged a double-double of 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists per game at Bishop Canevin. DiPietro is a 5-9 guard who averaged 12 points and six assists per game as a strong outside shooter.

Forse and DiPietro tied for a team-high 18 points in the PIAA Class AA championship game last year, a 45-38, comeback win over York Catholic. Bishop Canevin (27-4) also won the WPIAL Class AA title defeating Seton-LaSalle.

Forse was named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writer's Class AA all-state second team and was selected to the Almanac's first team along with teammate DiPietro. Both players were selected for the Roundball Classic all-star game.

Both DiPietro and Forse earned four letters in basketball while DiPietro also lettered twice each in tennis and softball. The pair is also on the high honor roll at Bishop Canevin, which is located just a few miles from Point Park's Downtown Pittsburgh campus.

Point Park women's basketball has experienced great success recently with back-to-back conference championships and trips to the NAIA Division II national tournament the last two years. The Pioneers were champions of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament last year with a record of 25-7. The Pioneers return three starters next year.

Pioneers head coach Tony Grenek, who has been at the school the past two seasons, had these comments about Forse and DiPietro signing with Point Park:

"We are ecstatic to sign Carly Forse," said coach Grenek. "She comes from a tremendous high school program that won the Double-A state title this year, and you can't teach that experience. Carly uses her body so well in defending the post, scoring in the post and rebounding. She is a hard-nosed player, and she has a high basketball IQ. She will have a wonderful career here at Point Park."

"Celina DiPietro provides our team with something that has been a weakness of ours the past two years, and that is a long-range shooter," said Grenek. "She's a tall, lanky guard who can put the ball on the floor, she has unlimited range and defends well with her long arms. Once again, we are getting a state-champion player, and a coach can't teach that experience. Celina's best days of basketball player lie ahead of her at Point Park."
