Point Park women beat PSU-Fayette, 74-57, improve to 4-1 overall

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. -- The Point Park University women's basketball team led  by as many as 27 points the second half of its 74-57 win over visiting Penn State-Fayette in a non-conference women's basketball game on Monday night at CCAC-South Gym.

Point Park (4-1) had 10 players get more than 10 minutes of playing time and had the score majorly in its favor when the starters were in the game.

Teresa Davis led Point Park with 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals. The junior guard/forward from Vermilion, Ohio, was 7 of 10 from the floor and 6 of 8 from the foul line.

Ja'Nia McPhatter added 11 points and six rebounds, and Emily Schartner totaled 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Brittany Dunmire chipped in eight points and five rebounds, and like Schartner, she knocked down a couple of 3-pointers.

The Pioneers opened the game on a 11-2 run before going to the bench with five subs at a time the first 20 minutes. Point Park upped the lead to 25-10 on Brittany Dunmire's 3-pointers with 7:46 left in the first half.

Despite an all-around sloppy first half that had 15 turnovers from each team, Point Park took a 36-23 lead at halftime. The Pioneers added on to that lead with a 12-2 run the first four minutes of the second half for a 48-25 lead. The Pioneers' biggest lead of 60-33 came on Ja'Nia McPhatter's layup with 11:52 left.

Although PSU-Fayette got the margin down to 64-52 with 4:37 left, that was with the Point Park subs in the game.

Point Park shot 35 percent on field goals and was 23 of 32 from the foul line for 72 percent. Penn State-Fayette shot 35 percent and had only three less field goals than the Pioneers.

Point Park's next game is its Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener versus Alice Lloyd (Ky.). Tip off at CCAC-South Gym is 12 p.m.
