Weir repeats as KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Point Park

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University freshman center Sam Weir has collected another KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week award, this time for averaging 19.5 ppg, 13.5 rpg and shooting 54 percent from the field from Dec. 30 to Jan. 5 in a 2-0 week for the Pioneers (14-0, 4-0 KIAC).
Weir, a 6-0 center from Ellwood City, Pa., and Riverside High School, picked up the KIAC Player of the Week honor for the fourth time in the nine times it has been awarded this year.
Weir posted double-doubles in both games this past week -- both of which were KIAC road wins -- to keep No. 21-ranked Point Park as one of three unbeaten teams in NAIA Division II and establish a school-record 14-game winning streak.
Weir is tied for fourth in the nation with nine double-doubles after getting 25 points and 17 rebounds in an important, 79-77, overtime win at IU Southeast on Jan. 4 and posting 14 points and 10 rebounds in another KIAC road win Jan. 5 at Brescia (Ky.), 78-66.
Weir made 15 of 28 field goals on the week for 54 percent, which is right on her season average, and she made 9 of 13 free throws. For the year, the transfer from Seton Hill University is averaging 15.9 ppg, 11.1 rpg and 3.1 bpg.
Weir fourth in NAIA Division II in rebounding (11.1 rpg), blocks (3.1 bpg) and double-doubles (9). Her field-goal percentage of 54 percent is 27th in the country.
