PITTSBURGH -- Junior point guard Kayla Kiriau was chosen as the KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Dec. 9-15 for No. 21 Point Park (10-0, 2-0 KIAC).
Kiriau (pronounced KIDEO), from Wellington, New Zealand, had a strong all around game of 15 points, four assists, four steals and 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range in a 91-62, KIAC rout of Brescia on Dec. 14. She did all of that in 20 minutes as the Pioneers were up by as many as 28 points in the first half.
Kiriau is the starting point guard for the Pioneers, who are one of four remaining unbeaten teams in NAIA Division II women's basketball. She is in her first year at Point Park after two years on the junior-college level at Sheridan (Wyo.) College.
Kiriau does a little bit of everything for the Pioneers averaging 9.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.8 steals through 10 games. All five starters for Point Park average at least 9.2 points per game. She ranks 23rd in the country in steals per game.
The Pioneers' next game is tonight (Dec. 17) at La Roche (9-0) in a local matchup of unbeaten teams. Watch Live on the Point Park Sports Network on iHigh.com. WATCH LIVE
