PITTSBURGH -- Point Park senior guard/forward Katresa Savisky, from Butler, Pa., was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Oct. 28-Nov. 3 for her big game versus Madonna (Mich.) on Saturday.
Savisky, a 5-9 senior, scored a team-high 19 points, grabbed six rebounds and picked up three steals in a 77-74 win over fellow NAIA Division II Top 25 receiving-votes team Madonna on Nov. 2 as the Pioneers improved to 2-0 on the year.
Savisky made 7 of 17 field goals and came up with some clutch free throws with two seconds left to seal the victory. She sank two free throws after a 3-pointer by Madonna had cut it to 75-74 in the final seconds.
It was a big win for Point Park, which stayed unbeaten in the matchup of teams that were mentioned among the Top 40 of the NAIA Division II Top 25 preseason poll Oct. 29. Madonna starts the year at No. 32 overall while Point Park gets mention at No. 39.
Savisky is the first player this year to get the KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week award. She is one of three starters returning for Point Park. Savisky is averaging 15.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and shooting 46 percent from the field through two games.
The Pioneers are in action again this Saturday, Nov. 9 at NAIA non-conference Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Ohio.).
