Pioneers compete for the first time in women's golf

Sept. 18, 2009

LATROBE, Pa. - Competing for the first time in school history, the Point Park University women's golf team placed eighth of eight teams at the St. Vincent Invitational Friday.

Rowan Lewis, a freshman from Mt. Lebanon turned in a 112 to lead Point Park in its first-ever tournament. Lewis carded a 47 on the front nine of Glengarry Golf Links in Latrobe.

Point Park announced its plans to sponsor men's and women's golf teams in June. The Pioneers have a brief history of men's golf in the early 1970s, but they had never sponsored women's golf before this year.

In addition to Lewis, the Point Park women's golf roster includes Lorraine Hohman (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Dana Hilty (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Angela Geither (Butler, Pa.) and Alicia Plummer (Altoona, Pa.).

Point Park has one more event on its tournament schedule. The Pioneers visit the Allegheny Fall Invitational Oct. 8.
