Point Park women's golf takes 3rd of 8 teams at Westminster to start fall season

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Point Park University women's golf team placed third of eight teams Saturday (Sept. 6) at the Westminster Invitational to begin its fall season. The Pioneers shot a team score of 383 at New Castle Country Club with four players scoring in the 90s.
Only four of the 57 players in the field broke 90, and three of them were on team champion Mercyhurst, which shot 352 to win by 15 strokes over second-place Carnegie Mellon (367). At 383, Point Park was the only other team under 400 for the tournament.
Freshman Alena Lancia shot a 92 to lead Point Park, and she placed seventh individually. That was 10 shots back of medalist Gaelin Crigg of Mercyhurst, who shot 82. Point Park's Caroline Collins tied for ninth place with a 96, and Emily Slifka was one shot back in a tie for 11th with a 97. Molly Burns shot 110 to round out Point Parks team score.
Competing as individuals for Point Park were Lauren Martauz, who was 12th with a 98, Chloe Callison, who was 13th with a 99 and Emily Madden, who was one of six players who was unable to finish due to rain.
