April 9, 2012
NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The Point Park University women’s golf team placed sixth of eight teams at Monday’s Mary Clelland Eckles Invitational hosted by Westminster.
The Pioneers shot 416 led by Caroline Collins and Taylor Cormas each with a score of 101. Collins and Cormas tied for 20th place, and only three of the 48 players in the field broke 90 on a difficult day at New Castle Country Club.
Seton Hill was the team champion at 354. The only other teams to break 400 were Clarion (377) and Malone (378).
Lauren Martauz (106), Emily Slifka (108) and Chloe Callison (118) also competed for Point Park.
The Pioneers are in action next Monday, April 16 when they visit the Washington & Jefferson Invitational at Southpointe Golf Club. That is the last tune-up before Point Park travels to its Unaffiliated Group Tournament April 20-21 in Kendalville, Ind.
The Unaffiliated Group Tournament will take place at Glendarin Hills Golf Resort and provides the Pioneers a pathway to the NAIA national tournament. The American Mideast Conference does not have enough members to receive an automatic bid to nationals.
