Sept. 19, 2009
CHESWICK, Pa. - Geneva jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead on its way to a 3-0 victory over Point Park in a non-conference women's soccer match Saturday at Founders Field.
Elise Mann scored two goals for Geneva (4-2), including the Golden Tornadoes' first goal in the 14th minute. Mann got Geneva on the board by scoring an unassisted goal from 20 yards out.
Geneva extended its lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute when Rebecca Shaw hammered home a rebound after a shot by Maura Allen.
Mann added her second tally in the 58th minute to put the game out of reach.
Point Park (1-4) held a 12-11 advantage in shots. Pioneers' goalkeeper Liz Velez (Erie/General McLane) had three saves in 90 minutes of work, and Geneva goalie Lauren Londino had four saves in earning the shutout.
The Pioneers, who were playing their first game in seven days, will have another layoff due to the Pittsburgh Summit. Point Park will not play another game for 10 days as their next contest is Sept. 29 versus Carlow.
Point Park is closing its campus from Sept. 23-26 due to the Summit, which will be held in Pittsburgh from Sept. 24-25. No athletic events or practices will be held during that time. The Pioneers had originally scheduled to play host to Cedarville Sept. 26, but that game has been moved to Oct. 17.
