Point Park women's soccer loses season opener after holding 2-0 lead at the half

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Point Park University lost its 2011 women's soccer season opener Thursday, 3-2, at San Diego Christian. The Pioneers (0-1) had taken a 2-0 halftime lead with goals in the 30th and 35th minute but could not hold the lead.
Point Park's Kileigh Williams, a sophomore forward from Marion, Ind., scored an unassisted goal to get the scoring started. Five minutes later, Destiny James scored off an assist from Lauren Evans for a 2-0 Point Park advantage.
But San Diego Christian (1-0) cut the deficit to one goal on Hannah Wagoner's penalty kick goal just 1:04 into the second stanza. The Hawks gained even more momentum with Kathlynn Reynoso's equalizer in the 52nd minute.
San Diego Christian ended up getting the game-winner in the 69th minute from Kelly Brakeball.
Point Park concludes its two-game, season-opening swing on the West Coast with a visit to NAIA #15 Cal. State-San Marcos Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
Point Park and San Diego Christian were similar teams last year. Point Park was 4-13 overall while San Diego Christian was 4-11-3. SDC is a member of the NAIA Golden State Athletic Conference.
The Hawks held an 18-11 advantage in shots, including 10-4 in the second half when things swung their way. Point Park senior goalkeeper Liz Velez, from McKean, Pa., played all 90 minutes and made four saves.
