PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University senior defender Angie Abel has been named the KIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 22-28 for her role in the Pioneers' 1-0 victory over Geneva on Sept. 24.
In the only game on the week for Point Park (3-7, 0-1 KIAC), Abel keyed the Pioneers' shutout of the Golden Tornadoes as a center back on the defensive unit.
Abel is a four-year starter from Baltimore, Md. With her leading the defense, Point Park held a 29-8 shot advantage over Geneva and controlled the play throughout. Geneva got only three shots on goal in the 90 minutes.
Abel was chosen as the top defensive player in the KIAC this week after a vote of sports information personnel from around the conference.
Point Park returns to action Tuesday night (Sept. 30) for a non-conference game at Waynesburg. Kickoff is 8 p.m.
