FLORENCE, KY. -- Point Park University junior midfielder Erin Gilmartin was chosen as the KIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Erica Roney earned KIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for games played Aug. 31-Sept. 6, the conference announced on Monday (Sept. 7).
Gilmartin, a native of Springdale, Pa., scored a goal and made an assist as part of Point Park's 2-0 showing on the week. In a season-opening win over NCAA Division II Malone, Gilmartin scored the tying goal and assisted on the game-winner in the 90th minute to provide the win.
In a 1-0 victory over NAIA St. Catharine, Gilmartin helped set up the only goal of the game as the Pioneers improved to 2-0 on the year. Gilmartin started both games on the year for Point Park.
Roney, also from Springdale, Pa., played all 180 minutes in goal as Point Park started off the year 2-0.
Roney made 14 saves on the week for an average of 7.0 saves per game. She allowed just an unassisted goal versus Malone, but pitched a shutout the rest of the way as the Pioneers put together a comeback win.
Her shutout of St. Catharine over 90 minutes kept Point Park unbeaten in the early going. Roney and the Pioneers return to action today at NCAA Division II Walsh University.
