Mikolay, who scored a school-record 64 goals in three years at East Allegheny, will be a freshman in the fall of 2011. Her older sister, Erica Mikolay, was a four-year starter for the Point Park women’s soccer team from 2006-09.
“I am very glad to have Amanda onboard as she brings a great understanding of the game, an eye for the goal, and she will add firepower to the Point Park attack,” said Platts.
Mikolay, a native of North Versailles, Pa., is coach Platts’ first recruit for the 2011 season. Platts, from Wetherby, England, finished up his first season as Point Park head coach last week.
Mikolay scored 19 goals in her senior season. A two-time WPIAL all-section player, Mikolay led her team in scoring for three years. She scored a career-high 28 goals as a sophomore in 2008.
A National Honor Society member and an honor roll student, Mikolay is also a three-year letter winner in basketball.
“Not only did she lead her team in scoring,” said Platts, “but she also came back strong from a major injury in her junior year and led her team by example. Amanda is the ideal student-athlete who has maintained a very high GPA while participating in both soccer and basketball. I look forward to working with her over the next four years.”
