Point Park's Muckle, Velez named NAIA Women's Soccer Scholar-Athletes

PITTSBURGH – Point Park University women’s soccer players Melia Muckle and Liz Velez have been named NAIA Scholar-Athletes this year. The NAIA Scholar-Athlete award is the highest academic honor given out by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Muckle, a senior from Sewickley, Pa., and Velez, a junior from McKean, Pa., each earned the honor for the first time in their careers. The NAIA Scholar-Athlete award is earned by juniors and seniors who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and have been at their institution for at least one year.
Muckle, a midfielder, owns a 3.5 GPA as an elementary education major. Velez, a goalkeeper, has a 3.97 GPA as a secondary education major. Velez’s GPA is the highest among all fall sport athletes at Point Park.
Muckle played in 14 games and made three starts during the 2010 season. Velez played in six games as a goalkeeper and made three starts before an injury ended her season prematurely.
