Point Park drops weekend opener to host Marietta, 2-1, Friday afternoon
Sept. 2, 2011
MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Point Park women's soccer team got on the board early but lost at Marietta, 2-1, Friday on the first day of the two-day Marietta Classic.
Point Park (0-3) scored the first goal for the second time in three games when Kileigh Williams scored off an assist from Destiny James. But the lead was erased -- and momentum swung Marietta's way -- after a red card in the 30th minute.
The red card set up the hosts for a penalty kick, which tied the score at 1-1. Point Park played with 10 players the final 60 minutes, and Marietta (1-0) eventually got the game-winning goal in the second half.
Point Park concludes its trip to the Marietta Classic on Saturday vs. Transylvania. Kickoff is 3 p.m. Transylvania was 16-4-1 last year and was picked to win its NCAA DIII conference.
