RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- Point Park University women's soccer opened its season Saturday with a 1-0 loss at non-conference University of Rio Grande. Courtney Young gave Rio Grande (1-1) the win over Point Park (0-1) with her goal in the 63rd minute.
The game was scoreless after a first half that had four shots on the board for Rio Grande and one for Point Park. Point Park had seven shots in the second half compared to four for Rio Grande, but it was the Red Storm who put a goal on the board on one of their two shots on goal in the game.
On the goal, Rio Grande won a punted ball near midfield and then flicked it down the center of the field, where Young got behind the defense to find herself in a one-on-one with the keeper. Each team totaled eight shots, and Point Park had five of its shots come on goal.
Point Park continues play on the road with a trip to Muskingum on Tuesday. The Pioneers return home for their home opener at Highmark Stadium Thursday vs. West Liberty (7 p.m.).
