Point Park falls at NAIA #15 Houghton, 5-0, in AMC women's action

Oct. 14, 2011

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Point Park fell behind, 3-0, at the half on its way to a 5-0 loss at NAIA #15 Houghton in American Mideast Conference women's soccer action Friday night.

For Point Park (4-9, 3-4 AMC), it was the fourth loss in a row. Houghton (12-2, 4-1), ranked No. 15 in Tuesday's NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, swept the season series with Point Park. The Highlanders won on the road, 3-0, Sept. 30.

Four of Point Park's nine losses have come versus teams that were nationally ranked at the time.

Point Park's four-game losing streak started with that initial loss to Houghton, and it continued with a tough, 4-3 loss in double overtime at 10-win Daemen (10-3) Saturday. The next loss was 1-0 to NCAA Division II Seton Hill on Tuesday.

Point Park had been riding high with a 3-1 AMC record after its 1-0 win over Carlow Sept. 27. Now at 3-4 in the conference, the Pioneers have a chance to get back on the winning track right away with Saturday's road game at Roberts Wesleyan (5:30 p.m.).

Point Park has five games remaining -- all in conference play -- including Saturday's date with the Raiders (7-7, 4-4 AMC).
