Sept. 3, 2011
MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Point Park University women's soccer team played even with a strong Transylvania team for the 45 minutes Saturday but could not keep up in the second half. Transylvania went on to win, 4-1, after the teams were tied at 1-1 at the half.
The game was on Day 2 of the Marietta Classic. Point Park (0-4) had opened its weekend Friday with a 2-1 loss to host Marietta. The Pioneers will look for their first win Wednesday when they make their home opener versus Seton Hill. Game time at Founders Field is 7 p.m.
Newcomer Kristina Stammer scored Point Park's only goal Saturday to force a tie into the halftime locker room. Stammer is a native of Daytona Beach, Fla., and a transfer from Sierra (CA) College.
Anna Shaw got the start as Point Park's goalkeeper Saturday, and the sophomore played all 90 minutes.
Transylvania is a traditionally strong NCAA Division III school that was 16-4-2 last year and was picked to win its conference this season.
